Growing up in Portland, many people my age enjoyed the Mighty 91, KISN Radio, broadcasting from the showroom window of a downtown building. KISN went off the air many years ago, but a group of former employees and other broadcasters have put a low-power FM version on the air. They have a growing and loyal audience, and are bringing back some good times.
I’m proud to be able to “underwrite” some of the programming, which really means “advertise.” You’ve probably heard underwriting announcements on NPR, and they’re usually pretty dry. KISN’s are a bit more upbeat, and I had the joy of doing the voice track myself. If you have a business, these boutique FM stations can be an inexpensive way to advertise to a very loyal audience of dedicated fans. I suspect they’re around in areas other than Portland, and you should check them out.
Here’s the commercial.
